Dear ABC Student Group Leaders,

It was good to see you all during the Activities Day last Friday! ABC is very happy to see all of our groups full of energy during the start of the year.

24-25 ABC Co-sponsorship application
I am pleased to announce the opening of our 2024-2025 ABC co-sponsorship application. We will prioritize programming that focuses on student life on campus, ensuring that these funds are being used efficiently to foster campus culture. I want to provide key points that your group should consider before applying for ABC funding:

  • Our co-sponsorship pool for this year amounts to $93,991.82, a ~$3,500 reduction from last year's initial pool.
  • Make sure you are requesting funding within our spending guidelines.
  • Consider many other funding sources available for your student group.

Covered Lerner A/V Technical Services Announcement
We understand that there are questions about why we cut technical services costs this year from 24-25 allocations. We are pleased to finally be able to officially announce the following, through this message released by University Event Management on September 03, 2024:

~~

In an effort to help students manage costs for activities held in Lerner Hall, Event Management has set up a fund that will support AV technician expenses.

AV Labor charges under $600 will be automatically approved by the fund for qualified events and applied to event reservations. For Lerner Auditorium, charges under $675 will be automatically approved for qualified events.

This fund was created to cover Recognized Student Group technician needs based on last year’s programming and accommodating for new events. For most meetings and events with AV technicians, this daily fund will cover the entirety of the costs. For larger events and performances with additional technician needs, alternative funding options, such as the Presidents and Provost Fund, may be available to cover these charges.

All charges against the fund must be made within the fiscal year in which the event occurred (July 1st through June 30th) and the fund will only cover events that occur within the academic term.

Student groups can direct questions to [email protected].
~~
In other words, AV Labor charges under $600 (and under $675 for Roone) will be automatically covered! For costs higher than that, your group must apply to the President and Provost Fund as soon as possible.

If you are a group that needs technical services in Lerner and costs are greater than $600 ($675 for Roone), apply to this fund as soon as possible!

In general, this is good news for groups who had hardships when dealing with the increasing tech costs in Lerner. Yet, I will be working in order to increase the cap for automatic coverage, as many of our groups spend much more than ~$600 for their tech costs.

I appreciate the leadership under the Engineering Student Council (ESC), especially to its president Kavika Krishnan, for their work on this!

Follow-up: 2024-2025 Financial Planning
Please look over our past newsletter. It contains crucial advice, information, and tools to successfully run your student groups next semester. Don't understand how to manage your group's finances? Want to know how much money your group has stored up? Where can you get funding for your group? The answers for all those questions can be found there!

Updates from Undergraduate Student Life (USL)
Please read this information sent by USL last week. There are very important action items that your group must take early in the semester – coordinate with your group’s executive board to make sure your group does not miss any of these deadlines. It is imperative that your group is working to complete these tasks ASAP:

  1. Student Organization Survey (SOS)
  2. Student Organization Knowledge Assesment (SOKA)
  3. Meeting with your advisor.
  4. Enough is Enough session.

Town Hall Changes
The first ABC Town Hall will be tentatively occurring on Wednesday, September 25, 9-10:30pm EST in Roone Auditorium (not 8-10pm, as said before). Your group is required to send at least 1 representative. Failure to attend town hall will result in penalties, and attendance will be taken.

In addition, I recommend you in viewing the following videos, which were also part of our past newsletter. This will help you prepare in managing your group's treasury during this year.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your ABC representatives! They are your first point of contact and advocate for ABC-related inquiries.

Have a good rest of your day!

Best,
